[, who arrived in South Australia on board the wrote. | Read source notes.]

we immediately
weighed & stood down the Gulf about 4 we anchored off the
mouth of stream with Mt Lofty bearing about E. by S.
On landing found the stream small and salt water at
least as far as we traced it being a distance of not above a
mile from the shortness of time the country was beautiful a
very extensive plain extending North and South & up to
the foot of the Hills a distance of 12 miles. On reaching the
boat the sea which was perfectly smooth when we landed
was now breaking rather unpleasantly We managed to
clear it with nothing but a wet jacket & a little fear on
the part of the doctor who was with me. By 8 o clock this
evening it blew a perfect gale the first we had since
on the coast.
